Craig, Newly named Carcass Bay(Between Lulu Island and Baker
Island), Orr Island – June 15 – June 21, 2013
Let the fishing begin – John and Elise arrived on June 15th. They changed their flights so that they could
fly into Craig instead of Petersburg since we were close to Craig and they
wanted to fish that area also. We went
to their friends George and Janette’s house on Craig and they gave us a lot of
fishing areas so we headed out on June 17 for Lulu Island to the new bay we
named Carcass Bay. The reason for the
name is that Tom, Steve and John caught so much fish (they got Silvers, Halibut, and many Black Sea Bass on
Day 1). We spent over 2 hours processing
the fish into Seal a Meal bags so that we could get it into the freezer.
Carcasses back to the sea so that is the why it is now named Carcass Bay.
This was the day 2 catch – the big one in the middle is the
King Salmon that Tom caught! Many more Silvers, Halibut and Black Sea Bass –
another 2 hours of fish processing! Day
3 – guess what- more fish. Dean went out
with the guys this time and had the magic touch for LindCod! We now have a full freezer of fish and the
plan is to buy a chest freezer in Juneau as we really don’t want to be done
fishing but we are out of Freezer space.
Tom with his first King Salmon – Day 2 of fishing!
More Cruising, whales, sea otters, and seals! I also managed to spot the Shrimp pot that
Tom had lost in the channel the night before so we can continue to Shrimp and
Crab. The weather has continued to be good – a bit cooler but usually in the
afternoons we get sunshine and smooth water.
Yesterday Elise and I went with Glen and Liz on their dinghy for a two
hour cruise around the islands. We found an old Marble/Granite mining area that
was amazing – old open mining pits and lots of Granite blocks that have been abandoned
in the early 1900’s.
