Alaska 2021 - June 27 - June 30

 Alaska 2021 – June 27 – June 30

We left Kalinen Bay to take John back to Sitka for his flight home.  It was foggy leaving in the morning but turned into a beautiful sunny day.

Mt Edgecumbe on Kruzof Island was beautiful with its bare volcanic cone on our cruise to Sitka.

We met up with the others and went out to Samsing Cove on Baranof Island which is just south of Sitka where we spent the day fishing with Tom before he heads home from Sitka on the 30th. It was a spectacular day with sunshine but it was very rocky when we took the Grady out to fish with Tom.  We fished off of a group of Islands to the west – caught Black Rockfish again but no Salmon.  Tom might have had one on but reeling it in he got his line wrapped on the prop of the trolling motor and lost it – Ugh.

We woke up on the 29th to considerably cooler weather – its 63 today and quite windy. We went to Sitka for fuel and groceries and the guys changed the oil in their engines as we already have about 150 boat hours since the start of our trip. We also met up with some other Roche Harbor Yacht Club members – Patrick and Miriam Gill and Harry and Teri Johnson are on the Gill’s boat Spirit and we went over Tuesday evening to visit.

On the 30th we said goodbye to Tom and had the opportunity to say hello to Kim Oberto on Maximo – another RHYC Member.  Kim took Tom to the airport as she and Steve have a car in Sitka. Steve Oberto is in the picture below on Maximo in the marina in Sitka.

We spent the day in town touring the cemetery (a favorite activity for Glen and Liz as they try to find the oldest tombstone – 1880 for today found by Glen)
