August 6, 2016 – August 11, 2016
We said goodbye to Michael and hello to Ellen and Mike in
Petersburg. We went on Nellie into the
big bay by Petersburg so Mike and Ellen could see Iceberg’s floating in the
water. The weather was nice for a couple of days as a teaser but has socked in
solid since then – lots of rain and overcast skies but still beautiful! We have
cruised from Petersburg thru the Wrangell Narrows to Roosevelt Bay which was a
beautiful bay that had a strong current from the Stikine River. From Roosevelt we cruised over to Wrangell
where we stocked up again and we met up with part of the cruising team (Magic
Moment and Sea Life) at the Stikine Inn - a very fun evening. From there it was off to Berg Bay – another
beautiful site with a waterfall. Mike
took the kayak out for the first time while the rain was gone for an
afternoon. Steve and I took the Grady
back to Wrangell to pick up Josh on the evening flight – he is joining us until
the August 17. We went over to Anan Wildlife Recreation area to see the bears
in the pouring rain! We saw a Momma bear
and two cubs and another juvenile but it was a slow bear day for us. We had rented the Anan cabin for the night
expecting to stay on the USFS float overnight but it was not big enough for
Nelsea and Miners Debt so we moved on to Santa Anna bay where we set out the
crab pots. We met up with Sea Jay,
Spirit Bear and Noon Balloon in the bay but did not do the group anchorage since we
arrived at different times so we anchored with Miners Debt in the head of the
bay. Today we have crab and steak dinner as Tom caught a lot of crab over the
last few days (we only caught 1!).
