Canada July 10 - 18

Canada July 10 – July 18

July 10 – 18 Isabella Bay to Walker Island Group – We left Isabella in the rain.  It has been raining all night and it is very overcast. We are headed for the Walker Group to do some fishing today! It was a very smooth transit thru Nakwakto rapids this morning as the tide change was 1 hour ago. We headed for Wishart Inlet in the Waller Island Group. We stayed here for two days and the weather was wet.  We tried fishing and had a couple of bites but no Salmon yet.

We headed for Port McNeil on the 12th to get ready for our flight home for our niece’s wedding. We had a fantastic Seaplane ride home to Renton on Lake Washington and we celebrated Steve and my 38th wedding anniversary on the 14th at home with Josh and Kimberly, Tyler, Amanda, and our 3 granddaughters Evie, Lexi and Zoey and my mom June.  It was great to see everyone and catch up. Lots of fun and the wedding – Congratulations Janna and Tim!

After a whirlwind visit it was back to Port McNeil where we provisioned the boats for approximately 1 month since we will be heading around the North end of Vancouver Island next.  Our last night in Port McNeil we borrowed the marina Van and went to Telegraph Cove where we had a fantastic dinner at the Killer Whale CafĂ©!  What a treat and we will definitely come here again – the food, atmosphere and service were exceptional!

Canada July 5-July 9

July 4 – We left Ocean Falls headed for Eucott Bay.  We have been here before and it is a beautiful area that has a great hot springs – it started off as a warm sunny day which unfortunately brings the horseflies but the wind picked up and it rained in the afternoon which makes the bugs disappear! We had a great soak in the hottub with some Canadians who were also in the bay for the night.

July 5 – Kwatna Bay – We headed down Burke Channel to Kwatna Inlet and our stop for the night.  The water was flat and the scenery spectacular. We saw dolphins today but they were too fast and far away for pictures to show them. The high mountains with snow and the many waterfalls were great to see.  Pretty setting and Tom got lots of Crab at 85 feet!

Rick and Pam's boat Beachcomber who joined us in Shearwater.

July 6 -7– Fougner Bay- Sleepy Bay – We are heading South to cross cape Caution so these were two bays we stayed on our way. The most memorable part of these locations is that after driving by Namu which is a derelict old town we were treated to an amazing whale show – we had full breeches, lots of water splashing  and it went on for a long time.

Once we were tied up in Sleepy Bay (not my favorite anchorage) we took a Jet boat ride to Dawsons Landing.  There Glen found Ice Cream – always a treat.  The store was not open but the owner was there so opened up to sell him ice cream.

This is an old fishing lodge that appears to now be abandonned - It looks like it has been several years since anyone has been here.

Legacy Fishing Lodge near Dawson's Landing was doing a booming business.

July 8 – Cape Caution – It was a great day to cross so we headed out at 9 from Sleepy Bay and we had a very long day to cross Cape Caution and on to Seymour Inlet up thru Nakwato Rapids.  We decided Taco Friday sounded good – something easy for all of us to make for our shared dinner.

Video of Cape Caution - we have never had a smoother crossing!

Tremble Island - Nakwakto Rapids close to slack tide.

July 9 - Isabella Bay - Seymour Inlet

We have spent the day inside our boats as it has poured with rain today. We were going to explore the inlet but the weather has not cooperated so its a catchup day on the boats.
